bbm

Last nite, my partner and I joined Kel to watch movie called Brokeback Mountain. We came, we watched, we "conquer debates." lol. I'm not gonna explain the movie, y'all gonna have to see it for yourself (or check other blogs). ::wink!::

Getting many reviews and becoming a hot controversial movie in the nation, and perhaps, international, it's also a "must-see" movie for D/deaf GLBT community when it's available in open-captions. In the way, it reminded me of Boys Don't Cry (back in 1999, wow can u believe that? long time) -- the way both movies brings out to mainstream and Hollywood. Same goes to Philadelphia. Brokeback Mountain received 4 golden globe awards. Boys don't cry has numerous awards, including winner of best actress in Academy Award- Hilary Swank. Don't get me wrong - I do applaud their work and everything, but there are many great GLBT movies out there that could have been into mainstream movie theatres, instead of "direct to video." Same goes for gay actors/actresses out there - if there's gay actors play these characters in Brokeback Mountain, would they be recognized or receive Golden Globe awards? Plenty of opportunity to make a difference.

Anyhoo, my views for the movie: wonderful performance. I admired the work of Ang Lee. He also directed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which is entirely completely different than Brokeback Mountain. He did good job doing different genres, so I'm amazed how he did this one. Wonderful pictures. The film flows smoothly through the story of 20 yrs. As for actors, interesting. I read one of the reviews for Heath Ledger - "It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn." What is it to soft-spoken characters that made the movies successful? ::chuckles:: Anyway, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal portrayed their characters well - their happiness, their fear, their suffering, and their love. From young men to aged men, I see their eyes - it shows. They feel their love to each other. Oh, their love! So unbearable pain for so long- just for love. The movie shows just enough to keep your mind thinking how these characters feel. I'm told that the book is actually different than the movie version, so i gotta read that book one day.
